Missouri has no state-level licence for garage door, general, or home improvement contractors. The Division of Professional Registration's official list of licensed professions runs from Accountants to Veterinarians and includes "Electrical Contractors", but contains no general contractor, home improvement contractor, construction contractor or garage door category. Any licensing requirement therefore comes from the city or county where the work is performed - check locally.

Missouri has no statewide building code. Building and energy codes are adopted jurisdiction by jurisdiction: the Missouri Department of Natural Resources states that "the building codes adopted by jurisdictions throughout the state are listed on the State of Missouri Data Portal and can be accessed by county or city" and that "the most current information may be obtained by contacting the local jurisdiction." Whether a permit is needed for a garage door depends entirely on the local jurisdiction.
