Indiana has no state-level general contractor, home improvement contractor, or garage door contractor licence. The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency's official list of licensed professions and boards covers 40 occupations including Plumbing, Home Inspectors and Manufactured Home Installers, but contains no general contractor, home improvement contractor or construction contractor category. Contractors should check the city or county where the work will be performed, since local licensing/registration is not covered by this state source.

One- and two-family dwellings are governed statewide by the Indiana Residential Code at 675 IAC 14-4.4 (the "2020 Indiana Residential Code"), which adopts by reference the 2018 International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings. The rule is adopted by the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission and administered by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
