Garage door rules in Boise County, Idaho

Boise County follows Idaho state licensing law, and the county or its cities issue the building permit for the job. Below: the state rule, the places inside the county, and live local coverage.

Licensing in Idaho

Idaho requires contractor REGISTRATION (not a licence) with the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses for any construction job over $2,000, backed by $300,000 general liability insurance.

Licensing authority
Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) - Idaho Contractors Board — official site
State licence required?
Registration, explicitly not licensure - the Contractor Registration Act "requires registration, not licensure." "Any person who engages in a construction job with a dollar amount exceeding $2000.00 (materials & labor)" must register unless exempt. Exemptions include employees paid wages, material suppliers who do not install, property owners doing their own work without intent to sell within 12 months, commercial building owners maintaining their own facilities, and separately licensed professionals (architects, engineers, electricians, plumbers) acting within their own scope. There are no garage-door-specific classifications - one general contractor registration.
Threshold
$2,000 - registration is required for "a construction job with a dollar amount exceeding $2000.00 (materials & labor)."
Bond / insurance
No surety bond required for registration. Applicants must supply a certificate from an insurer authorised in Idaho showing "a general liability policy ... in the sum of not less than $300,000 single limit" and worker's compensation coverage (or a statement of why it is not required).
Permit for a garage door
Idaho Adopted Codes (DOPL Building, Construction & Real Estate Bureau, Building Program): 2018 International Building Code with amendments; 2018 International Residential Code (parts I, II, III and IX) with Idaho amendments, collectively named the Idaho Residential Code (2020 Edition); 2018 International Existing Building Code; 2018 IECC as the Idaho Energy Conservation Code (2020 Edition). Permits and plan review are handled by DOPL's building program and local jurisdictions (bcre-permits@dopl.idaho.gov).
